Nigeria @ 63: šŸ‡³šŸ‡¬ Is It the Giant of Africa?

Image
By Ibrahim Ishaq Marhaba āœļø 01/10/2023 When Nigeria gained independence on October 1st, 1960, the world watched with anticipation as a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources took its place on the global stage. However, the current situation tells a different story. The suffering experienced by Nigerians today is unimaginable. While Nigeria is often referred to as the 'Giant of Africa,' the question arises: what features support this title? Presently, Nigeria bears the grim distinction of being the world capital of poverty. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, 71 million people live in extreme poverty, and 133 million are classified as multidimensionally poor. This reality contradicts the notion of Nigeria as a giant of the continent. Moreover, the title fails to resonate with the country's current state because it is marred by leaders whose primary goal is to embezzle public funds for personal gain. Meanwhile, the impoverished popula...

The country has one of the highest poverty rates in the world, with over 40% of the population living below the poverty line. This is mainly due to a lack of job opportunities, inadequate infrastructure, and an uneven distribution of wealth. Nigeria is grappling with various socio-economic issues, including poverty, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, and insecurity. These challenges have a direct impact ...

FIRE OUTBREAK AND THE NIGERIAN FIRE SERVICE

Image
It appears that the Nigerian Fire Service has lost the trust of the poor masses in our country. There are serious doubts about whether this agency is effectively performing its duties. It is unfortunate that in Nigeria, we often have fire service offices in various cities, towns, and local governments, yet during fire incidents, they seem to be absent from start to finish. For instance, on April 27th, 2023, a fully loaded petrol tanker overturned along Bauchi Road at the Bauchi Junction in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Shockingly, for more than 3 to 4 hours, there was no sign of the Nigerian Fire Service. This delay resulted in loss of lives and the destruction of properties worth millions. It is unclear whether the Nigerian Fire Service is a government agency or a private one, as there have been reports from the incident stating that when people sought their assistance, they demanded something in return. Some claimed that they cited a lack of fuel in their tr...
