The struggles of students: A cry for justice

Image
In the hustle of everyday life, many people find themselves navigating through challenges, and for some, the journey includes the demanding world of academia. A recent encounter with a university student sheds light on the harsh reality faced by students on the path to education. As a graduate waiting for our results to be out, I engaged myself in a rickshawing business and as I was moving through the city of Jos, I picked up a young woman who, by all appearances, seemed to be a dedicated university student. Little did I know that her journey was marred by the shadows of academic hardships. During her phone conversation with a fellow course mate, the conversation delved into the frustrating realm of carryovers and spill-overs. According to her, some lecturers seemed to wield their power recklessly, subjecting students to the ordeal of repeating courses, even after graduation. What struck me was the claim that these burdens were inflicted upon students who resisted inappropriate advance...

Image
By Ibrahim Ishaq Marhaba ✍️ 01/10/2023 When Nigeria gained independence on October 1st, 1960, the world watched with anticipation as a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources took its place on the global stage. However, the current situation tells a different story. The suffering experienced by Nigerians today is unimaginable. While Nigeria is often referred to as the 'Giant of Africa,' the question arises: what features support this title? Presently, Nigeria bears the grim distinction of being the world capital of poverty. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, 71 million people live in extreme poverty, and 133 million are classified as multidimensionally poor. This reality contradicts the notion of Nigeria as a giant of the continent. Moreover, the title fails to resonate with the country's current state because it is marred by leaders whose primary goal is to embezzle public funds for personal gain. Meanwhile, the impoverished popula...
