Bauchi Speaker urges Unity, Reflection, Patriotism at Easter

The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has called on Christians and Nigerians at large to embrace unity, sober reflection, and patriotism as they celebrate Easter.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker said the Easter period—marked by Good Friday and Easter Monday—symbolises the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the redemption of humanity, urging citizens to draw closer to God, shun wrongdoing, and show kindness across religious divides.

He noted that the season should serve as a moment for deep spiritual reflection, adherence to religious teachings, and a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, stressing the importance of prayers for leaders, national peace, and economic prosperity.

“The Christian community in Bauchi has, over the years, lived in harmony with others, contributing immensely to the state’s security, economy, and overall development. This spirit must be sustained to ensure continuous progress,” the Speaker said.

He added that a peaceful and united environment remains essential for delivering democratic dividends, urging citizens to set aside ethnic, regional, and religious differences in the interest of collective growth.

The Speaker further stated that the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ should inspire believers to live righteously and contribute positively to society, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws and supporting initiatives that improve the wellbeing of the people.

Mukhtar Garba Kobi, spokesperson to the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, said the message also conveyed warm Easter greetings from the Speaker, Principal Officers, members, and staff of the Assembly, with prayers for peace and transformation in Bauchi State and Nigeria.
