Food remains one of the most essential pillars of human survival, sustaining strength and enabling people to carry out their daily responsibilities. Guided by this understanding, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi), has continued his annual Ramadan Feeding Initiative to support vulnerable residents across Ningi Central Constituency.
The initiative, designed to ease hardship during the holy month of Ramadan, provides daily iftar meals to thousands of beneficiaries, particularly the less privileged. Food items for breaking the fast are distributed in mosques across the constituency, ensuring that families can observe their religious obligations with dignity and peace of mind.
Over the years, what began as a modest outreach programme has expanded significantly in response to growing needs. This year alone, more than 15,000 people are expected to benefit throughout the month, with over 500 individuals receiving balanced meals and drinks daily. The initiative has become a consistent pillar of support for many households, offering relief at a time when economic pressures remain high.
Observers note that the programme not only addresses hunger but also strengthens communal bonds and encourages spiritual devotion during Ramadan. By providing meals for iftar, the Speaker aims to restore hope, inspire resilience, and promote compassion within the community.
The Nabalago Foundation, established by Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has also played a complementary role in social support efforts. Beyond Ramadan feeding, the foundation has trained youths in vocational skills, distributed start-up packages, and sponsored beneficiaries in various educational institutions. These interventions are geared toward long-term empowerment rather than temporary relief.
The Speaker’s wife, Haj. Abi Hafsat AYS, is widely acknowledged for her supportive role in the humanitarian initiatives, dedicating time and resources to ensure that outreach programmes reach intended beneficiaries.
Rt. Hon. Dr. Suleiman has consistently maintained that representation must go beyond legislation to include direct impact on people’s welfare. His Ramadan Feeding Initiative reflects what supporters describe as empathy-driven leadership focused on improving living conditions, strengthening faith, and promoting shared responsiblity within the community.
