The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi), has secured the establishment of a solar power sub-station for Kujara community in Ningi Local Government Area as part of efforts to address persistent electricity challenges in the constituency.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker disclosed that the project was facilitated through the Federal Government via the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) after a series of consultations and engagements. The solar power sub-station, with a capacity of 30 kilowatts, is expected to provide a sustainable and reliable alternative source of electricity for the benefiting community.
For several years, residents of Kujara have grappled with inadequate power supply, a situation that led to the collapse of small businesses and other ventures heavily dependent on electricity. The Speaker noted that the intervention would help revive economic activities, enhance security, and curb criminal activities by illuminating streets and public spaces at night.
According to the statement, Maskh Nigeria Limited has been selected as the contractor responsible for the effective execution of the project.
Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman reiterated his commitment to equitable development across communities in his constituency, stressing that no area would be neglected. He added that similar solar-powered projects would be extended to other communities to provide alternative energy sources, boost the local economy, and address social challenges associated with darkness.
The people of Kujara community expressed appreciation for the intervention and pledged to safeguard the facility against vandalism to ensure its long-term sustainability.
