UN Commits to Deepening Partnership with Gombe State To Foster Development Across Key Sectors

The United Nations (UN) has solidified its commitment to strengthen its partnership with Gombe State, as both entities work collaboratively to boost socio-economic development across various crucial sectors. This announcement came during a meeting between the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York.
Hajiya Amina Mohammed, in her remarks, applauded the remarkable progress achieved under Governor Inuwa Yahaya's leadership, highlighting the significant strides made in subnational governance. She also commended the improved quality of life for the people of Gombe State.
Furthermore, the UN Deputy Secretary-General assured Governor Inuwa Yahaya of unwavering support from the UN throughout his tenure, emphasizing the commitment to meaningful development in Gombe State. She expressed her willingness to engage international development partners, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Susan Buffet Foundation, and the African Peace Corp, to secure support for healthcare and human resource development in the state.
Additionally, Hajiya Amina Mohammed offered to facilitate the UN's technical support to bolster the Secretariat of the Northern States Governors' Forum, a pivotal platform for regional development, upon formal request.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed his gratitude to Hajiya Amina Mohammed for her notable contributions to the UN's global mission and hailed her as a proud ambassador of Gombe State and Nigeria on the international stage.
During the meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya presented an overview of the multifaceted development initiatives his administration is currently implementing, particularly focusing on healthcare and education. He appealed for support to enhance the state's healthcare system, including attracting skilled manpower to reinforce the operation of recently constructed or rehabilitated General hospitals across the state's three senatorial zones.
Furthermore, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Northern Governors' Forum, Governor Inuwa Yahaya sought the UN's assistance in strengthening the Forum's Secretariat by providing technical experts to collaborate on overarching development objectives.
The commitment to this partnership between the United Nations and Gombe State holds promise for accelerated development and improved well-being for the people of the state.
