Borno State Governor Unveils Innovative Pedestrian Underpass Bridge in Maiduguri
In a bid to enhance pedestrian safety and urban development, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, inaugurated a cutting-edge underpass bridge designed like a tunnel to facilitate pedestrian road-crossing while vehicles traverse on the bridge above. This remarkable infrastructure project was officially opened on Friday, situated in the vicinity of the renowned Gamboru market in Maiduguri.
The necessity for this underpass arose from the potential risks associated with pedestrians crossing busy highways. Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of safeguarding the lives of citizens and enhancing their convenience, citing the inherent dangers of road-crossing as the driving force behind this innovative construction project.
Governor Zulum's commitment to infrastructural development and urban renewal in Borno State has been evident since his assumption of office in 2019. With over 700 physical projects under his belt, his administration has ushered in transformative changes. Notable among these accomplishments is Borno's first-ever flyover, extensive road networks, the construction and rehabilitation of more than 20,000 houses to provide shelter for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, the establishment of over 20 large-scale schools, and the development of more than 200 healthcare centers. These initiatives align with his administration's overarching urban renewal policy, aimed at revitalizing the state's infrastructure and improving the lives of its residents.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bukar Tijjani, Head of Service, Barrister Mallam Fannami, various commissioners, advisers, permanent secretaries, and government officials, marking the significance of this milestone in Borno State's ongoing development journey.
