As President Muhammadu Buhari farewell speech Marks Peaceful Transition of Power and Highlights Achievements for Nigeria's Future



In a poignant and reflective farewell speech, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian people and celebrated the successful transition of power to a newly elected government. Speaking as his term came to an end, President Buhari emphasized the importance of sustaining and improving Nigeria's democracy, urging the nation to continue striving for progress.


President Buhari acknowledged the fiercely contested nature of the recent Presidential Elections, hailing it as evidence of Nigeria's evolving and strengthened democratic system. He stressed the need for incremental improvements in the electoral process to solidify Nigeria's rightful place among the world's nations.


Recognizing the significance of seeking justice within the democratic framework, President Buhari called on all parties involved in the election disputes to accept the decisions of the courts and unite in building a better Nigeria. He commended the determination and resilience of all presidential candidates and their political parties for placing their trust in the judicial system.


Addressing his successor, President Buhari extended heartfelt congratulations to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting his passion and commitment to propelling Nigeria to a position of prominence globally. President Buhari pointed to the progress made in enhancing Nigeria's democracy, with an electoral process that guarantees credible results, fairness, transparency, and reduced influence of money in politics. The President noted that this approach enabled candidates without political godfathers or access to significant resources to emerge victorious, fostering a level playing field.


The Nigerian economy, under President Buhari's stewardship, demonstrated resilience and weathered global economic downturns, such as those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The President commended the deftness of Nigeria's response to the crisis, which was acknowledged as a global best practice. Efforts to empower the poor, rural communities, and women, while supporting young urban entrepreneurs, contributed to a more inclusive and sustainable economy. President Buhari also recognized the vital role played by the private sector in fostering economic growth and development.


Regarding security, President Buhari highlighted the considerable reduction in incidents of banditry, terrorism, armed robbery, and other criminal activities during his tenure.
