BAHA Partners with FRSC to Curb Road Traffic Violations in Bauchi State

In a determined move to tackle persistent road traffic violations in Bauchi State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has pledged closer collaboration with the Bauchi State House of Assembly (BAHA).

The Bauchi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Istifanus Ibrahim, led a delegation on a familiarization visit to the Assembly on Friday, aimed at building stronger ties with lawmakers to enhance road safety enforcement and public compliance.

“We cannot work alone. Road safety is a shared vision that demands joint action to achieve its objectives,” Mr. Istifanus stated. “In many states, FRSC works directly with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. We want to replicate that cooperation here in Bauchi by fostering a close relationship with the State Legislature.”

The Sector Commander recalled that in a previous engagement, FRSC and BAHA had resolved to form a task force to address issues such as overloading and the transportation of large animals on motorcycles—an initiative yet to be implemented. He also commended the Speaker for his pivotal role in establishing the Bauchi Road Transport Authority (BAROTA) and urged lawmakers to pass legislation that would eliminate operational overlaps and strengthen road safety measures.

Responding, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman (Dangaladiman Ningi, Barden Kudun Katagum), acknowledged the importance of FRSC’s role in safeguarding lives and property.

“The FRSC’s mandate is critical to protecting lives and ensuring the smooth movement of goods and people. Your request for partnership has been given due consideration, and I assure you that the House is committed to working closely with you,” the Speaker said.

He further promised to appoint a liaison officer from the Corps to the Assembly and clarified that BAROTA’s activities would not conflict with the FRSC’s responsibilities. The Speaker also informed the delegation that the Assembly had recently resolved to engage security agencies on enforcing the removal of motorcycle mufflers when used recklessly.

The visit concluded with a candid discussion of prevailing road safety challenges and practical recommendations to address them.
