In the hustle of everyday life, many people find themselves navigating through challenges, and for some, the journey includes the demanding world of academia. A recent encounter with a university student sheds light on the harsh reality faced by students on the path to education. As a graduate waiting for our results to be out, I engaged myself in a rickshawing business and as I was moving through the city of Jos, I picked up a young woman who, by all appearances, seemed to be a dedicated university student. Little did I know that her journey was marred by the shadows of academic hardships. During her phone conversation with a fellow course mate, the conversation delved into the frustrating realm of carryovers and spill-overs. According to her, some lecturers seemed to wield their power recklessly, subjecting students to the ordeal of repeating courses, even after graduation.
